In an honest and candid Instagram post, Britney Spears has shut down the rumors that she is working on a new album and declared that she “will never return to the music industry”. This response was in light of the reports that surfaced Wednesday morning on Page Six about the singer potentially tapping Charli XCX and writer Julia Michaels for an unannounced record.
Spears Speaks Out: Dismisses Reports of Releasing a New Album
In response to the reports of a potential new album, the popular singer made it clear that the rumors were false. In her Instagram post, Spears shared a painting of Salome Bearing the Head of St. John the Baptist, and wrote in the caption:
“They keep saying I’m turning to random people to do a new album … I will never return to the music industry. When I write, I write for fun or I write for other people !!! For those of you who have read my book, there’s loads that you don’t know about me … I’ve written over 20 songs for other people the past two years !!!”
The Connection Between Michaels & Spears
The reports of potentially releasing a new album included writer Julia Michaels – who is also credited as a writer on Spears’ “Slumber Party,” a song that appeared on her last studio album, “Glory” (2016). In her Instagram post, Spears went on to call herself a “ghostwriter”, meaning that she writes for other artists without attaching her name to the project, and claimed she “honestly [preferred] it that way”.
The Acclaim Behind Spears’ Memoir
Spears went on to address comments that her book, “The Woman in Me” was released without her approval. The memoir was said to be a national bestseller, with over 1.1 million copies sold in its first week across print, pre-sales, e-books and audiobooks. In a review for Variety, Stephen Rodrick described the book as being a lesson about the media destroying young, successful women.
The Singer’s Truthful Remarks
In addressing the rumors, and the success of her memoir, Spears finished her Instagram post saying “That’s far from the truth. Have you read the news these days? I’m so loved and blessed”.
The pop superstar’s truth-filled response to the rumors about potentially releasing a new album have led many fans to support her and her current endeavors. Although Britney Spears has firmly shut down the idea of returning to the music industry, her previous works will remain in many hearts and will continue to be celebrated.
